A.G.M. 2024 from the Chair

It is difficult to believe that I am now at the end of my second year as Chair of Haverhill and District u3a, the time seems to fly by. I have been very fortunate in that we currently have a very committed and supportive committee and I could not have done my job without them.

We have had some excellent speakers at the monthly Tuesday meetings thanks to the hard work put in by Sue to book these and look after them on the day of the meeting.

Gerry is continually working on the website to update and improve it and News and Views continues to be very popular. My thanks to all the members of the committee who have given me so much support and to the News and Views team.

I am prepared to stand for another year in the position of Chair and the voting will take place at the A.G.M. on 26th March. I look forward to seeing you there.

Treasurers’ Report 2023

2023 saw us outturn at a level very close to that of last year, with expenditure only exceeding income by just under £600. Bearing in mind the large reserve that we still hold this is not considered to be an issue.

Income was lower than 2022, mainly driven by Events (only one held, as opposed to two the previous year), Gift Aid (issues with the setup, now resolved) and Grants. Group receipts were almost level, although more came through our bank account.

Expenditure was slightly down on last year, mainly due to Events (see above), partially offset by hall hire.
We will be impacted by the impending closure of our local Lloyds Bank branch, but we are confident that we have found satisfactory ways around this and have tightened our internal financial rules to accommodate the changes to be made.

I would like to thank David Cook for taking over the role of Auditor, and for processing our accounts so quickly and efficiently.
